In this episode of ShardTalk, the Co-founder and CEO of Sorare shared on bringing blockchain gaming to all football fans.
ShardTalk is the gaming interview segment that connects our readers to people who are shaping the blockchain gaming space. This episode features Nicolas Julas Co-founder of Sorare, a top soccer collectible game. Let’s get right into it!
Genre: Fantasy Soccer
Quick Info: 97 clubs officially licensed. Cards from clubs like Juventus and Atletico Madrid are available.
Q1. It has been quite a journey since the launch of Sorare. How many clubs and leagues do you all have currently?
We’ve launched our game in closed beta mode in April 2019 with the Belgian Jupiler League. Since December 2019, we’ve been onboarding new clubs and new leagues such as Juventus, Atletico Madrid, or Olympique de Marseille. Right now we have 97 officially licensed football clubs that are creating blockchain collectibles with Sorare.
Q2. Congratulations on the recent launch of J league and Russian Premier League collectibles. What are the next regions/clubs you are looking at?
We are building a Global Fantasy Football Game. Our ambition is to onboard the top 20 leagues in the world. We are speaking with all of these leagues as of now and the top clubs of all of these leagues. We can’t communicate yet but there we are expecting to launch 2-3 top clubs in the next 2 months.
Q3. Is Sorare fully on Ethereum now? With Loom Network out are you looking for a new solution?
Sorare is indeed fully on Ethereum since the end of May. All our numbers are public on nonfungible.com and all the other dApp aggregators. We’re not looking for a new L2 solution asthere is no Layer 2 with a big enough track record and adoption right now. We delved more into why we chose Ethereum and our thinking around Layer 2 solutions here.
Q4. Can you share with us some of the successes your players have had while playing Sorare?
Our players are winning tournaments on Sorare every week with rewards. Some players have been able to win more than 100 cards. One of the best ways to gauge the success of the different players is to go on the third-party application soraredata.com. You’ll see the ranking of the top managers,
seeing how much they’ve spent on the game and how much they’ve won. Right now the best Sorare players can actually make a living out of playing Sorare.
Q5. Can you share with us some of the events and community involvement Sorare has had?
It’s been a bit hard to be involved in events with this troublesome year but we participated in EthCC in Paris this past March and we actively contribute to the Blockchain Game Association. It’s our goal to keep contributing to the global blockchain gaming community as much as we can
Q6. Are you looking to integrate more game modes into Sorare?
Our vision is to partner with gaming studios that want to build on top of Sorare cards. As we have some very unique officially-licensed cards, there might be an interest for these gaming studios to use Sorare assets in their games. We are already in discussions with different gaming studios about this idea.
Q7. Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?
Sorare is a free-to-play game that is fun for anyone that enjoys football. The market is huge and we’re still an early stage project despite being the blockchain game with the most volume right now. Please try and Sorare and let me know what you think.
